The Cardinal Family
On June 2nd or June 3rd of 2000,  my Mom (Esther Bird) discovered a bird nest in the Juniper bush in front of our livingroom window.   It is from here that Mom, Dad, and I (the rest of the family to a lesser degree) took interest in the develloping story, an emotionally sad saga at that!  It is a story about a wild Cardinal pair that determined that the spot in front of our window in the Juniper bush was the safest place to raise a family of baby Cardinals.  So for the next five days we got to watch the devellopement of this family and its abrupt end the day before my parents were to head back home.
Day 1 -  The Nest and Three Cardinal Eggs.
 Day 1 or 2 - Mother,Cardinal in Nest.
Day 2 or 3 - The Ugly Chick
Day 1 or 2 - Father, Cardinal in Nest.
Day 2 or 3 - Feed Me!
Day 3- Feeding Competition
Day 4- Feeding chicks
Day 4- Father, Overseer of Nest
On Tuesday  morning of June 6th of 2,000;  we found the nest empty.  The mother perched on the edge of the nest staring blankly into the nest.   The baby Cardinals were gone.  There is a neighborhood cat that makes its rounds around our home.  I suspect it was this black cat that made its rounds through the Juniper bush and ate the three baby cardinals.  So that was the sad ending to this event.
The next day,  my parents were heading back to the San Fracisco Bay Area.
