Tari and I (Wayne Bird) went with the Junior High Quizzing team as Coaches.  Pastor Randy Tanis was our bus driver and Heidi Braughler was the quizzing coach for the Senior High Team.   We left the school at about 0550 Saturday morning and arrived at Marquette Manor at about 0900, just in time to catch the Participant Meeting prior to the compitition.  Tari spent some time reviewing on the cold and frigid bus as we travelled down to Marquette Manor.

Tari and I both drove the church van down to chicago for the "Tenth Annual Marquette Manor Baptist Academy Bible Quiz Invatational".
We left Watertown around 05:50 am with road conditions not being the greatest.  The temperature was in the single digits and snowing moderately.  On I-94 heading towards Chicago near Mitchel Airport we saw a double trailer that had jacknifed into the center divider wall.
we arrived safely at Marquette Manor around 08:35 am.  The quizzing matches started at 09:30 am.  there were fourteen teams from around the country.

2004 WACS Junior High State Bible Quiz at Calvary Baptist Church
For once we didn't have to travel far and wide to have the quizzers compete against other schools.  The quiz meet started at 11:00 am and finished at 03:40 pm.  In the afternoon as the the competition narrowed down CBCS teams A and B both faced some teams that did very well. Falls baptist A team which came in third did very well. It was Falls A team right after lunch that had a high of 190 in Round 4 and CBCS A team finished with a medium (20 pts behind Falls A team) for a score of 170.  CBCS B team placed highs in Rounds 1-6 (they sat out on rounds 2, 5, and 7).  It was only when that they competed against the CBCS A team that the CBCS B team started placing mediums in the remaining rounds.

Fifth Annual Bible Quiz Invatational at Faith Christian School; Clinton Township, MI
Tari & Wayne Bird travelled with four of the junior high quizzers from CBCS to Warren Michigan to compete against 8 other JH teams.
We left Watertown Wisconsin at 1:00pm on Friday, 19th of November.  The trip was slowed down considerably due to the slow traffic on  I-294.  It did rain throughout most of the trip.  Tari did make this time profitable for the quizzers.  She quizzed them continuously for about five hours.
Daniel Mulder's birthday was on this day, so we treated him to Cracker Barrel and had a small crew from Cracker Barrel sing "Happy Birthday" to him.  Fortunately nothing serious happened, but while the kids were climbing into the car Mr. Bird started to move forward.  Daniel Mulder ended up with his foot under the tire.  We kept asking him if his foot was ok.  Daniel kept saying yes, but that it was tingling a little bit.  On the way home. Every time I started the vehicle, the kids didn't waste time to climb into the car. We arrived in Warren Michigan around 11:20pm Eastern Time.
The girls and Tari Stayed at a church members home from Faith Christian School.  While Wayne and the boys stayed at Luke Tanis's Uncles home (Brian Tanis family).  Mrs. Tanis fix a nice breakfast for the Wayne and the boys before we travelled off to the quiz meet.  We were thankful for the wonderful hospitality that was arranged before us.
The quizzing was very competitive. With two teams competing very hard against us.  Woodside Baptist from Denver Co. was in my mind (Wayne's) as being the best team at the meet and Old Paths Baptist Academy from Coatsville PA.  They did have the most wins during the first seven rounds and won a bye for the eight round.  The final rounds involved the top three, Woodside, Old Paths, and CBCS.  An unexpected turn in the outcome of the match happened when Woodside the obvious leader for the first eight rounds came in third in the final match.  Old Paths won the second final round against CBCS which gave us second place.
We finished, quizzing around 4:00 pm Saturday (EST), and were on the road shortly afterwards.  Mr. Bird had to stop to get gas on Wayne Rd. in Wayne MI. in order to continue the trip home.  Our trip home was uneventful and we were able to make it into Watertown around 10:30 pm.  The quizzers did not have to study on the way home either.
